Wise Adult Skills
Building Compassion, Self-Trust, and
Better Relationships
What are Wise Adult Skills?
Wise Adult Skills are a set of practices and lessons that empower you to be more accountable, more self-aware and more accepting of yourself (and of others). The skills include witnessing your mind, self-compassion, boundaries, self-care, interdependence, moderation and accepting imperfection.
The skills have been compiled by Terri Delaney, a social worker, therapist and educator who is an enthusiastic lifetime learner. She first developed the class after training with Pia Mellody and she wanted to offer this ground-breaking material beyond her one-on-one in therapy sessions. The course now includes interpersonal neurobiology, somatic skills, relational skills and even some philosophy, and she expanded the instruction team to include Robin McKenna.
“The practice of nonjudgmental, agendaless presence is the foundation for safety and co-regulation.”
— Bonnie Badenoch
About the Wise Adult Skills course
If you attend the 6-week course and follow up with the practice group, you will learn how to witness your own mind, regulate your emotions, establish personal boundaries, protect your peace and take better care of your well-being. Throughout guided exercises, we’ll explore and nurture Wise Adult skills such as self-witnessing, self-acceptance and the strength to set boundaries.
Arranged to gently guide you through self-discovery, self-reflection and exploration of the inner psyche, this growth-oriented self-help course teaches you how to accept your imperfections, love yourself, understand yourself and trust yourself. By helping you recognize your inherent worth and develop a deeper understanding of how the brain works, it provides you with the tools you need to live life intentionally with purpose, kindness, compassion and meaningful connection.
